Continuing with the theme from yesterday of type as image: I think the counter of the bowl of a lowercase "a" in Helvetica is pretty cool looking and I wanted to see what I could do with it. So these faces are make up of the negative shapes of the lowercase "a", "s", "e" and "w" from the font Helvetica.

  1. This reminds me a lot of an assignment for a Graphic Communications class, although we weren't working with NEGATIVE spaces.

Very interesting, although I have to say I prefer the sketchiness of your hand-drawn type experiments from the other day!

  2. Yeah, the type as image is common assignment (and effective for clients in the right instance) but there was such an emphasis in the Helvetica movie about type being about the space around the letterform that it got me looking at Helvetica in a different way. No worries though, I'm going back to hand drawn stuff quite soon.
