This is so well done! Really great, when I was looking on my blog's dashboard I saw you're little picture and thought it was a photo of you're desk! The perspective and details are very realistic!
I'm deeply conflicted about this kind of work - it seems so simple and it's kind of fun, but it takes time away from the work I need to be doing. My pioneer forefathers would look askance at he non-utility of it.
Which is a long-winded way of saying that I appreciate the kind thoughts. Perhaps they'll help me do more of this again when my heinous schedule allows.
I know what you mean, but here's my thoughts: Commissioned work is essentially an echo chamber. You are hired based on a portfolio of work you've already done, which they would like you to apply to their needs. Sketching for yourself (for "fun" if you like) either consciously or unconsciously takes your work in a new direction. That's good for both you and your clients.
• Label your posts like this: month.day.year Name. For example, 08.17.09 LWhite •The goal is least a full page in a sketchbook per day • Any subject matter, media, level of finish is fine • You should post at least every three days • Pages should be dated • The overall goal for the sketches is to have fun and to draw when the moment or opportunity presents itself. Also to encourage experimentation and interpretation. The goal is NOT for every page to be pretty.
