01.31.10 SHarpster

I go to life drawing classes twice a week and both classes the models became ill at the start of class. The Sunday class model was able to pose lying down, but I was gun shy that she was going to end up leaving early so I decided to draw the other members of the class. They didn't know I was drawing them.

Hi everyone! I was hoping to start off with something better but it's 3am, so here's a quick value study. (Reference)

By way of something completely different. Here's some sketches for a typography project I'm playing with.  Ambigrams are fun! (For anyone who didn't catch "Angels and Demons" last summer the idea is that the word should read the same when it's turned 180˚. By the way the guy who did those ambigrams is 'freaking awesome. Check out John Langdon's work here )

Hey everybody. I need to apologize for the lack of posts. I got a contract job and have been doing tons of drawing, but I can't post what I'm working on. I have a new respect for you guys who draw all day for work, and then draw extra on top of that...ahh the lessons of the noob. Anyway, here's something I can post. It's for my hawk hunter project which is almost finished and the contest deadline is very close. This is where the little hawk hunters live.. in dilapidated bird houses..

If you look real close at this image and squint your eyes you might be able to slightly see the resemblance of Andy Bernard from the television show "The Office." I paused the show on my DVR to draw him and this is what I got. Oh well, better luck next time right?

01.07.10 Harpster (Thanks)

Thanks for allowing me to participate in your blog. I really like the challenge to post something new every day. I have one or two good sketches from today's life drawing session that I will post soon, but for now here is something I worked on last week. I just wanted to post and say "hello, and looking forward to contributing to this wonderful blog."

First day of the winter term at AiPD and I always start the class with a portrait (as literal or interpretative as they like) of Einstein. I wonder how many versions of this guy I've done?

I came across an old high school yearbook the other day -- and who can resist those faces!
Something about yearbook photos say so much about the character of the teenagers who are forced to sit for them.

Today was a combination of the Pose Maniacs and good ol' George Bridgman's  book "Life Drawing"
What I wouldn't give to be as good as that guy was on his worst day.

I came across a website called Pose Maniacs. Fairly cool site since they've got a 30 sec quick pose functionality. The "poses" are from Poser so -- not amazing. But not bad either.
