This blog is a difficult thing. Not only is it a sort (or sorts) of work I don't do otherwise, the very standards I use in my other work have to go out the window... Having finished my last book it took a couple days for me to break in a new book (badly, with yesterday's sketch that I didn't even want to scan).I just need to remember not to worry, and that the more contour drawings I do, the better. No matter how much I hate them. I just remembered today that I won a prize in Colorado when I was in 7th grade for a contour drawing that I hated. Funny how the hate doesn't change. lol

Sorry to have been away for so long. Just after my last post I went down hard with the sickness that's been going around.
Anyway, I'm now only "mostly dead" and wanted to continue posting the series tonal sketches. This here's the next in the series.

This might be stretching the idea of a "page of sketches" but I was doing some chalk drawing on the sidewalk today. It was part of a children's book store's 35 anniversary.
A great store, and definitely an interesting medium to work on.

More starts, less finishes
Hey guys, I LOVE the finished work you are doing, it's awsome!! Your clients have to be happy with that level of work.
That said, we need to stick to the blog ideals which are sketching and exploration. Feel free to scribble. Feel free to pull a Jackson Pollock and splatter paint, but let's leave the finished stuff to our websites, etc. The worry here is that showing too much "finished" work will start to tighten up the process and that's the opposite of what we wanted to accomplish here which is:
Draw anywhere and with whatever you have available. Let expression lead the form and technique. Study from the masters and from nature. Get better in the underlying skills that drive the finished work. Post without concern or desire for critique.
Thanks!

I have this odd idea in my mind of a fashionista with an alien dog thingy. You know, instead of the toy poodle...ha ha get it? anyways.. So I'll be going out of town for a week and won't be posting during that time. Also, finally I'm proud to announce that my website, www.shaunkeenan.com is live! Take a look , if your so inclined. Also, Lee White, if your out there, please put up the link on the side panel with all you other uber leet artist :).. not that I'm uber or anything, I'm just glad to be here.
