Headed down to "A Children's Place" bookstore today to catch David Shannon reading "It's Christmas David!"from the latest in his "No, David!" series. Really good presentation and he did a "How To" drawing demo; to which, I dutifully followed along (although I noticed that none of the 4 and 5 year olds in the audience bothered to -- slackers)

I just got an ipad and here are two sketches that I did on it. I used the sketchbookpro app and the special stylus pen that only works for the ipad. The stylus pen has a spongy tip and is very thin and not really comfortable for drawing...actually my hand hurt after doing it for a while. The ipad is not very pressure sensitive when you compare it to the wacom tablets or the cintiq. It is a glimpse at what is to come and I believe that in two years these tablets will be right up to par with the cintiq. One other crit is that you aren't able to create a 300dpi image with the ipad, but you can sketch up an ideas and e-mail them to yourself open it in photoshop and then jack up that resolution to do your final render.

I gotta' confess that I haven't touched my sketch book this week. Mostly because I'm either working on client projects or updating information for the classes I'll teach this term.
I thought I'd post these two photos since they are in the "spirit" of this blog (i.e. improving the skillz)

I'd also appreciate any thoughts on how understandable these images are. The second image is a little tricky because the idea of a shadow vanishing point (SVP2) landing on the wall isn't the most intuitive thing. (as I look at it, I might have to redo that setup for clarity)

The past three days of drawings that I've finally gotten around to scanning. Some random doodles, some figure drawing and a sketch on a stolen pen and coaster from a bar last night. Todays sketch will come later today.

Here is yesterday and todays sketches. I felt like I need a break from figure drawing today. Plus, I'm sure people must get sick of me posting the same thing day after day, but I'd rather do something that benefits me instead of scribbling to fill my pages. Any-who, today I grabbed a character I did for a class about 6 months ago. He is pretty fun to draw, and its nice to come back to something I haven't touched in a while. I'm sure he'll be showing up more.
